Awkwafina, an American singer and actress began with humorous raps that addressed sexuality and racial identification. In the years before she stepped into Hollywood she came out with a series of rap tracks. Nora Lum was born to Chinese-Korean immigrants in Forest Hills Queens. Her first exposure to music was through the instrument of trumpet. Later, she began studying classical music and hip hop. In college she studied the field of women's studies and journalism. In addition, she spent one semester studying Mandarin in Beijing. After graduating, it wasn't until that she turned her attention towards music. After gaining viral fame via the Internet Her song My Vag was a reaction to the song of Mickey Avalon's My Dick. It eventually appeared on the album she released, Yellow Ranger. The album featured other viral hits like the body-positive Queef and the winking tour of her hometown NYC Bitche$. This track was directly linked to another project, Awkwafina's NYC guide to traveling published in the year 2015. After she established herself as a singer and author She took on acting roles. Apart from early series such as Girl Code and Tawk she appeared in films such as Neighbors 2, Storks as well as Bad Rap. In 2018, she landed a number of major roles like Dude Ocean's Eight or Crazy Rich Asians. The EP came out in June.
